  • INTRODUCING FRANA

When did you decide you wanted to turn hairdressing into a career?
I've been working in a salon since I was 12 years old and have loved it ever since. I started my apprenticeship when I was 16!
What is your favourite thing about your job?
I love looking after people and teaching them new things. It's so rewarding to be able to help clients learn something new!
What product could you not live without?
Davines Oi Oil - it's like a primer for your hair! I put it in wet hair ever day and it cuts down my drying time, shines and seals the hair cuticle. It also goes so well with every styling product.
What is your number one tip for your clients?
Get a salon quality hairdryer! It makes all the difference to your blow wave and the condition of your hair. The Parlux dryers that we use in the salon are amazing and last for years and years.
     What inspires you?
I get a lot of inspiration from magazines, my favourite is Frankie. I'm always on Instagram too, following a lot of food and lifestyle bloggers.
What is a rule that you preach but don't practice yourself?
I always tell people to drink lots of water to hydrate your body, skin and hair... but I never do it myself!!
    Who is your dream client?
Nicole Ritchie! Such a babe - I love her look!
What is your favourite hairstle at the moment?
I'm loving all sorts of short hair styles right now especially the more masculine ones - even better when paired with hot earrings!
What are you most likely to be doing on your days off?
I love the outdoors, I'm always out and about with my pup Archie.

  • MEET KRISTLE

What is your role at Hamilton Brooks?

    Senior Colourist

When did you decide you wanted to make this a career?

As a kid I was always interested in doing hairdressing. Growing up I was inspired by my uncle Karl who is a senior stylist at the salon. I'd always be amazed at his work. It has been really rewarding learning how different hair colours and styles can be achieved.

How long have you been working at Hamilton Brooks?

I did a week work experience at the salon while I was at hairdressing school in 2011. I moved to Auckland from Whangarei in March 2013 to start full time at Hamilton Brooks and I have been loving it!

What is your favourite thing about your job?

I love doing hair! Its the sort of job where looks are always evolving so I'm constantly learning and its so exciting when people are ready for a big change. I also enjoy meeting new people and catching up when they come in for their next appointments.

What product could you not live without?

I'm always reaching for Sebastian Mousse Forte. I love blow waving with this as I find it's a great foundation for a lot of different styles. Great for blow waving in volume or texture as well as smoother looks too.

What food could you live off for the rest of your life?

    Lemons!

    Your favourite meal to cook?

Lasagne! It's a favourite in our house.

What 3 things would you take with you to a deserted island?

    Sunscreen, Hairbrush, Lounging deck chair

What are some of your favourite songs at the moment?

I love everything 90s! I've been blasting Groove Theory - "Tell Me" so much lately but I have so many favourites. I love listening to J.Cole mostly!

    Favourite movie?

The Notebook - I cry every time...

    Favourite TV series?

Game of Thrones - Jon Snow was pretty easy on the eyes too

Where would you most like to travel to?

I've love to go to Japan and I've always been interested in going to India.

What are you most likely to be doing on your days off?

Hanging out with my daughter, catching up with friends or family.

    Who is your dream client?

Gwen Stefani. I love her style - she's still so iconic! She has kept the same hair colour for a long time, it's a classic example of "if it ain't broke don't fix it!"

    Favourite hair style?

I love textured bobs! A blunt cut, styled with heaps of movement. I also love big volume waves like Cindy Crawford in the 90s, or pinned back like Bridget Bardot.

What is your role at Hamilton Brooks?

    Junior Stylist and Makeup Artist

When did you decide you wanted to make this a career?

At a super young age. I have always been obsessed with hair and makeup.

How long have you been working at Hamilton Brooks?

I started in 2011 as a colourist and have been lucky enough to have some time off to travel. I'm excited to be back as a stylist this time around!

What is your favourite thing about your job?

It's my hobby too, so I genuinely enjoy coming to work every day!

What product could you not live without?

I love the SACHAUAN Styling Cream because it holds style and is nourishing without being greasy or weighing the hair down. It's my number one product for blow waving.

What food could you live off for the rest of your life?

Coconut. It's the best for everything. Young coconuts I would drink from, older coconuts I would eat the flesh, I would coldpress the coconuts in to oils and use in my hair and on my skin. I even have coconut oil in my black coffee. I love coconuts!

    Your favourite meal to cook?

Pan fried salmon with kumara mash and steamed greens.

If you were a superhero what would be your superpower and why?

But my go to music would be The Growlers or Bon Iver. And you can't go wrong with Beyonce!

    Favourite movie?

It always changes, I love a good comedy, Anchorman, and Avatar I've watched quite a few times!

    Favourite tv series?

I've done a fair bit of travelling and next on my list is definitely Central America! Bali is my favourite so far.

What are you most likely to be doing on your days off?

I love the outdoors, going hiking or roadtripping to the beach for a surf!

What are your favourite go to makeup looks?

For me personally I love a natural face of makeup. I use strobe cream which illuminates your skin as a base, and a light concealer under my eyes. I then love to have peachy cheeks, I use a combination of blusher and bronzer to softly enhance them. But my number one is liquid liner. I use a small angled brush and finish my daily look with liner on my lids.

    Who is your dream client?

    Alexa Chung

    Favourite hair style?

60's inspired styles with bangs and volume, Sienna Miller in Alfie pulls off this style exceptionally.
