RUNWAY BEAUTY
Read more →There were so many looks we were loving from the recent Spring 2015 fashion shows in New York. The Michael Kors show gave us major braid envy with their carefree take on a long loose braid.

At Nanette Lepore, models wore a high twisted top knot, keeping it feminine and not overly sleek.

With Donna Karen, we see more braids, this time a more exaggerated, chain style.

Stylists at Coach were looking to the 70s for inspiration, giving a nostalgic feel.
Creatures of the Wind went for the effortless low pony for an undone look.

For Diane von Furstenberg, it was all about the bombshell look with lots of volume.

What is your role at Hamilton Brooks?
Senior Colourist
When did you decide you wanted to make this a career?
As a kid I was always interested in doing hairdressing. Growing up I was inspired by my uncle Karl who is a senior stylist at the salon. I'd always be amazed at his work. It has been really rewarding learning how different hair colours and styles can be achieved.
How long have you been working at Hamilton Brooks?
I did a week work experience at the salon while I was at hairdressing school in 2011. I moved to Auckland from Whangarei in March 2013 to start full time at Hamilton Brooks and I have been loving it!
What is your favourite thing about your job?
I love doing hair! Its the sort of job where looks are always evolving so I'm constantly learning and its so exciting when people are ready for a big change. I also enjoy meeting new people and catching up when they come in for their next appointments.
What product could you not live without?
I'm always reaching for Sebastian Mousse Forte. I love blow waving with this as I find it's a great foundation for a lot of different styles. Great for blow waving in volume or texture as well as smoother looks too.
What food could you live off for the rest of your life?
Lemons!
Your favourite meal to cook?
Lasagne! It's a favourite in our house.
What 3 things would you take with you to a deserted island?
Sunscreen, Hairbrush, Lounging deck chair
What are some of your favourite songs at the moment?
I love everything 90s! I've been blasting Groove Theory - "Tell Me" so much lately but I have so many favourites. I love listening to J.Cole mostly!
Favourite movie?
The Notebook - I cry every time...
Favourite TV series?
Game of Thrones - Jon Snow was pretty easy on the eyes too
Where would you most like to travel to?
I've love to go to Japan and I've always been interested in going to India.
What are you most likely to be doing on your days off?
Hanging out with my daughter, catching up with friends or family.
Who is your dream client?
Gwen Stefani. I love her style - she's still so iconic! She has kept the same hair colour for a long time, it's a classic example of "if it ain't broke don't fix it!"
Favourite hair style?
I love textured bobs! A blunt cut, styled with heaps of movement. I also love big volume waves like Cindy Crawford in the 90s, or pinned back like Bridget Bardot.

TEASE ME
Read more →Who doesn't love a bit of volume! We find that hair is easier to tease when it's got a bit of grit to it, so before blow waving we like to use the SACHAJUAN Volume Cream. A little goes a long way with this product so we just use a small amount in damp hair, concentrating at the roots. SACHAJUAN Volume Cream protects the hair from heat damage without weighing it down.
Once dry, tease the roots with a fine comb or teasing brush. Do this in sections, working your way from bottom to top, and spraying each section with hairspray as you go. We recommend using a lightweight hairspray such as Sebastian Shaper Zero Gravity. Tame any flyaways with a final spray and lightly comb the hair into place.
